Umm...not to be impolite, but why should we? I mean, if we're currently RP-ing in the forum, isn't that like giving you our script? Of course, I could always put down a totally false character and see what havoc could be caused...

The point of putting down your character like this is so you limit their abilities.  By never revealing all about them, your character has an infinite amount of abilities or powers to fall back upon that you can make up for any given circumstance.  This is a good way to make people actually think during the RP as opposed to just making a new power for every situation that arises.

Thank you Mitsune, for clarifying two points. One, the point of this thread, and two, a very commonly abused character situation. Why do you think table-top role-playing games require you to fill out an hours worth of information about your character and their abilities? (I know of this firsthand).

Well, I've never gotten into one as...power-hungry as this one, so I guess all the others I've been in have been mature enough to not need this. My apologies on my ignorance.

My character is created off a very warped version of Norse mythos.

Rowan Fenrisson:

Rowan is the eldest-whelped of Fenris, wolf son of Loki. Fenris was chained for biting off the hand of Tyr during a battle. As punishment, he was chained in Asgard, where he met Gere, a wolf of Odin's. They fell in love and, with the help of Freke (another wolf) and Loki, the pair escaped.  They swore never to raise their paws against the gods until the end of time, in return for being able to escape unhindered. There is a caveat, though; when Ragnarok happens, Loki, father of Fenris, will lead the giants of Jotunheim, and Odin, Gere's leader, will lead the Aesir and Vanir into battle. This is terrible for both of them, for it will sunder them and their offspring (a race of wolf furs called the Fenri) as they have loyalties to both sides. Because of this, the Fenri have sworn that until the last of their kind die, they will work to the prevention of Ragnarok. Rowan, the eldest, and Katja, the younger, are the son and daughter of Fenris and Gere.

Rowan is a wolf fur that was chosen to protect Yggdrasil (and therefore prevent Ragnarok) by traveling the many alternate realities that spread throughout the multiverse. His ability is to wield Old Magick, a force where one uses their power to reach a new balance with nature, and causing a desired effect. Obviously, these abilities are generally limited to plants, animals, and wielding of energies found in nature. Rowan also wields the longsword Umbra Versa (literally meaning turned shadow), a sword which can fling away attacks of magical nature. He seems to be wearing no armor, but his fur is incredibly tough. In times of extreme stress, he can revert to a massive wolf of ice, similar in nature to Kyubi. Rowan is a peacemaker and would prefer to be the allyof people, not their enemy. One of the few exceptions is Kyubi, as he is too similar to him to get along with him.

*ahem* I never did ask you to explain your character specifically here. I simply stated that if you have specific techniques for rping then you are more than welcome to post them here (like explaining your style).

I am sorry you feel the way you do towards all this, but as far as I am concerned I am actually quite lax, especially with the power-play idea. Every single RP I have been in (and I have been in a LOT) has had very specific rules on no power-playing, which includes that you cannot have god-like powers and you must have an identifiable weakness stated somewhere. I am being lax becaus I am not enforcing the weakness thing and I will continue to neglect that issue until someone abuses that fact.

If I wanted a proffesional, mature, and almost elitist RP I would have already made a sign-up sheet, more rules, an application to fill out which will not let you decide unique attributes and will make it so you have to rely soley on your skill to RP. I am not doing that, though, since this is not a proffesional RP and it certainly will NOT be elitist. Contrary to your beliefs it is quite mature in the way it is being managed and so far the only thing I found immature about the RP is when a few people started to bash one another during the RP itself (on a side note, I am sorry I said the things I did, they were uneccessary).

Now I am going to ask you to please, do the mature thing and keep any snide and incendiary comments to yourself, or take them to the designated flame area. Thank you.

i don't really use a strategy. I just adapt to whatever is posted before me.

You see, that is my technique. I can adapt Rowan to all the RPs I frequent, and since only minor adjustments are used, I found it more expedient to give my full detail here.

I never stated you were strict by any stretch of the imagination. The RPs I have been in are equally strict, but where they merely assumed good behavior and enforced with subtle social pressure, you have made a much more direct statement about it.

I didn't intend to say this campaign is immature, and have no excuse but to say my foot is in my mouth so deeply it cut off the oxygen to my brain before I even said it. I was stupid to have said something that came off that rude and not even notice it. I am truly sorry.

I would like to ask whether there were any other statements that you found insulting besides my monumentally stupid blunder a post or two ago.
